A Letter From Your Nervous System

REGULATE: AWARENESS & UNDERSTANDING

Dear Human,

I’ve been with you from the beginning.
Before you had words, I had instinct.
I watched. I braced. I adapted. I protected.

When the world felt too much —I tightened.
When love felt unsafe —I pulled away.
When danger whispered —I roared or disappeared.

Even now, beneath your schedule and thoughts,
beneath the smile you show the world,
I’m still listening.
Still deciding if it’s safe to be… you.

You tend to notice me when I protest,
the racing heart, the restless nights, the tension you can’t explain.
But I’ve always been here, working behind the scenes,
trying to keep you safe — even from things long gone,
still echoing in your body.

And I’m tired.
Not broken. Not defective.
Just weary from carrying what was never meant to be held alone.

But here’s what’s possible, if I feel safe:

Your breath deepens.
Your shoulders soften.
Your chest no longer aches with held-back feeling.
You sleep — and actually wake rested.
You stop bracing for the next blow that never comes.
You say what you mean without rehearsing or retreating.
You laugh — not to deflect, but because joy lives in your body again.
You connect without shrinking or pretending to be okay.

You move through life — not around it.
You begin to trust… you.

That’s what I’m capable of.
Not just surviving your past,
but supporting your becoming.

You don’t need to control me.
You need to understand me.
We need to rebuild trust — slowly, gently, with compassion.

Because I can change. I want to.
But not through force or shame.
Only through safety.

That’s why this book matters.
It doesn’t ask you to fix me.
It helps you meet me with curiosity, not criticism.

Through Milu’s words, you’ll learn my language.
You’ll come back to yourself — not in theory, but in lived, steady presence.

You were never meant to carry it all alone.
I don’t only respond to danger.
I respond to connection.

So let’s do something different now.
Let’s Start Again.

With you, always,
Your Nervous System
